Puzzle Parasite, a Physics-Driven Sci-Fi Puzzler Now Available on Steam

news Levis Dec 03, 2025

Swedish studio Wrenfall, founded by industry veterans with backgrounds at Playdead, Ubisoft, Square Enix, and IO Interactive, is preparing to release its first project, Puzzle Parasite, on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025. The team positions the title as a science-fiction puzzle adventure that builds on a familiar genre lineage while introducing its own mechanical identity.

A First-Person Puzzle Experience Rooted in Genre Tradition

Puzzle Parasite draws inspiration from well-known first-person puzzlers such as Portal, The Talos Principle, and Antichamber. The game centers on manipulating energy cores, redirecting light bridges, and navigating hazardous environments through a blend of telekinetic abilities and more unconventional tools—including a cricket bat used for puzzle interactions and environmental control.

Exploring a Structured, Logic-Driven World

The adventure takes place on a mysterious planet built around physical logic and reactive systems. Progress relies on observing how mechanisms respond when moving, charging, or connecting cores. These interactions reshape surroundings, activate pathways, and gradually reveal structures hidden beneath the terrain. The design approaches each space as a self-contained challenge, keeping the pacing deliberate and focused.

Single-Player and Co-Op Campaigns

Beyond its solo campaign, Puzzle Parasite includes a dedicated two-player cooperative mode. This separate set of levels emphasizes communication, coordination, and shared deduction, allowing players to solve puzzles together rather than simply adapting single-player stages for multiple participants.

Design Principles and Player Experience

Wrenfall highlights a design philosophy centered on intentionality. Each level is built to avoid filler or repetition, with the studio aiming for a curated, room-based format. Core interactions—charging objects, linking mechanisms, or triggering chain reactions—are crafted to feel consistent and tactile, prioritizing clarity and player comprehension. Visual and audio elements lean toward a calm and grounded tone to support sustained problem-solving.
