War Rats - A hand-drawn rat-filled side-scrolling looter-shooter moba-lite game release on Nov 20th
WAR RATS takes that raw, brutal 90s gaming energy and rebuilds it into a modern looter-shooter where every district is a battlefield and every rat is a soldier.

A World Where Only Rats Survive
Set in a post-apocalyptic land overrun by TechnoRat—a hive-mind of cyborg rats dedicated to turning all remaining flesh into metal—you lead the last living resistance. As commander of the Ratineers, your mission is to reclaim Ratopia district by district, pushing your troops across a war-torn landscape in side-scrolling battles that erupt into absolute chaos.

Inspired by Classic Strategy and Forgotten Proto-MOBAs
The team cites influences such as Kingdom: New Lands and the Precinct Assault mode from Futurecop LAPD, a mode retroactively considered one of the earliest MOBA prototypes. WAR RATS merges those strategic roots with the over-the-top pixel gore aesthetic of 90s shooters, creating a game that’s fast, bloody, and constantly escalating.

Gameplay Built on Combat, Troop Management, and Relentless Progression
Whether you’re shooting, commanding, looting, or defending, WAR RATS throws you into battles where survival is never guaranteed.
You’ll juggle:
- Troop recruitment and support to avoid being overrun.
- Weapon and gear upgrades using hard-earned CHz currency.
- Base-building defenses such as turrets, shrines, walls and missile launchers.
- District-by-district roguelite progression, resetting on death but growing stronger with permanent upgrades.
It sounds simple—push your Ratineer into the enemy base—but every step becomes a brutal test of timing and resource management.
