Civilize is a game where civilization itself becomes the city you build by hand. You are not simply building a city - you are shaping an entire civilization through technology and development across eight distinct eras.
Stone Age: Shellfish, hunting, and a small group of people gathered around the first campfire.
Agricultural Age: Wheat fields stretch to the horizon, and the first marketplaces emerge among the farms.
Ancient Era (Greece and Rome): Stone roads, aqueducts, and the first ships crossing the open sea.
Middle Ages: Manors, crowded markets, and spices arriving from distant lands.
Industrial Revolution: Steam and coal smoke, railways crossing the islands, and factories operating day and night.
Atomic Age: Reinforced concrete and nuclear reactors, as multiple islands merge into a single economy.
Modern Era: Glass towers, digital marketplaces, and unrestricted freedom in city design.
Space Age: Your civilization reaches the stars.

The entire game takes place on a vast 500-square-kilometer map filled with islands rich in different resources. Each island has its own economy and unique production focus: one island may be covered in vineyards, another in endless coffee forests, while beneath a third lie deep iron deposits. Players are free to manage and connect regions creatively, building efficient resource networks across their empire.

There are no rival civilizations. Players can place every factory, port, and landmark by hand, define districts where farmland grows organically, and design roads that connect every corner of the city. Rather than controlling a nation from above, you build a civilization step by step, beginning with a single street.

Each era concludes with a monumental structure that defines it: an ancient temple, a grand colosseum, or a skyscraper towering above the city skyline. Every landmark will be completed through multiple stages, requiring manpower and resources over time. Once finished, it becomes the key to unlocking the next era of civilization.
