Details on Unreal Engine 6 remain limited, but Epic CEO Tim Sweeney previously said UE6 was still “a few years away,” with a preview expected within two to three years.

Sweeney said UE6 would not simply be a graphics upgrade. Instead, it will focus on solving Unreal Engine’s long-standing single-threaded simulation limits and moving toward multithreaded game simulation.

The engine is also expected to deepen ties with Fortnite’s UEFN creator ecosystem, with Epic’s programming language Verse helping unify UE5 and UEFN workflows. Epic aims to make game development easier, safer and more scalable for both studios and creators.

The Rocket League teaser at the RLCS Paris Major suggests Unreal Engine 6 could arrive sooner than expected, though Epic has yet to confirm a release window.
Epic’s previous engine rollout offers a rough benchmark: Unreal Engine 5 was revealed in May 2020, entered Early Access in May 2021, and reached its production-ready 5.0 release in April 2022, about 23 months after its debut.
