Grinding Gear Games has announced a limited-time Free Weekend event for Path of Exile 2 running from May 29 to June 1 (PDT), coinciding with the launch of the game's latest content expansion, Return of the Ancients.

During the promotional period, players on PC, Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and the Epic Games Store will be able to access the new update and try the latest challenge league, Runes of Aldur.

The studio is also offering a 50% discount on the game's Early Access Supporter Pack between May 29 and June 12, which includes game access and 150 in-game store points.

The Return of the Ancients expansion introduces a large-scale overhaul of the game's endgame systems.

According to official details released by Grinding Gear Games, the update adds:
• New endgame storylines
• A redesigned Atlas progression system
• New pinnacle bosses
• Expanded crafting mechanics
• Two additional Ascendancy classes: the Martial Artist and Spirit Walker

The update also introduces the Runes of Aldur challenge league, where players can complete in-game challenges to unlock cosmetic rewards, including pieces of the Knight of Aldur armor set and Hideout decorations.

In addition, a Discord Quest event tied to the expansion will allow players to earn a themed "Runeseeker" avatar decoration by playing the game for at least 15 minutes between May 29 and June 5. Progress tracking requires the Discord desktop application.

As an action RPG developed by Grinding Gear Games, Path of Exile 2 builds upon the gameplay foundations established by the original Path of Exile. The game focuses heavily on character customization, loot collection, and skill-based progression. 

Players explore interconnected maps, battle large groups of enemies in real time, and develop unique character builds using a combination of passive skill trees, equipment modifiers, and customizable skill gems.

Path of Exile 2 is currently in Early Access and is expected to officially launch by the end of 2026.
